nbc 10 breaking news. saved from flames. firefighters from chester rescue children and adults after a fire broke out in a home last night. a legal loss for bill cosby's legal team. and was it a tornado in the national weather service will be in cape may county today a after strong storms knocked down trees, tore off roofs and tossed boats around like toys. it's 4:30. 72 degrees outside. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. the storms have moved out but now we're watching fog in some areas. when i say we, i mean meteorologist bill henley. he's here with your first alert neighborhood forecast. a look at conditions right where you live. bill? >> not everybody is going to see fog. it's spotty in west chester county. zero visibility in coatesville. these are live pictures from around the area. we're looking good. mostly clear skies in the lehigh valley. that's brought the temperatures down. a few high clouds remain but other than that, pretty quiet.

philadelphia, there's still scattered clouds overhead. those clouds will thin out. by 9:00, bright sunshine. 75 degrees. and we will see lots of sunshine today. it's going to be a warm summer day, the second full day of summer into the 80s this afternoon. but the humidity is coming down. it's the winds that you'll feel today. it's that dry air that will be rushing into the area. 85 in philadelphia and the suburbs. while it will be in the upper 80s in interior new jersey right along the coast at the shore, 82 degrees this afternoon. those westerly winds heating up the beach today. that's today. there is some wet weather ahead. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour with the latest futurecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right now, jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill. we're watching mt. laurel, new jersey, route 73 around 295. we're dealing with rolling work crews in the area of the southbound side. one lane is getting by. you can see they have the shoulder in the next centerç le

blocked off with only one lane of traffic moving through, headed southbound. if you're headed towards berlin or voorhees, that's where you're going that way. all northbound lanes open to traffic at least at that spot in mt. laurel, new jersey. be on the lookout at least for construction crews. more construction over in new jersey between route 322 and route 44. construction on the pa turnpike where the right lane is closed between 29 and downingtown headed westbound. no problems with drive times. 23 minutes at the most. eastbound from valley forge to route 1. tracy? we continue to follow breaking news from chester. flames damaged a home overnight and people were trapped on the building's fire escape. nbc 10's matt delucia is live on scene. you've been talking with the people who were in the building while it was on fire. tell us more. >> right, tracy. it woke up a lot of these tenants. they were asleep when the fire started. we are on yarnell street and

west 3rd. five people were rescued, including three young children. see the fire escape? that was a key factor in saving these folks. this started around 12:30 this morning. chester fire telling us there was heavy fire on the second floor when they pulled up. the firefighters say this house has several units, about a half dozen apartments and 12 tenants. those rescued were taken to crozer-chester medical center for observation. one of the tenants told me he was in bed within he heard shouting. >> i looked out the bathroom window, seen the apartment next door on fire. there's a family there of seven next door. so my first instinct was to go try to get them out. i ran next door, was banging on the door to make sure they got out. >> reporter: they got out and the fire is out as well as we take another live look here. one fire truck remains. a lot of the fire crews have left and the roads have re-opened. the red cross were out here a

few minutes ago, helping about a half dozen of those tenant who were forced out of their apartments this morning. the fire marshal is trying to figure out how this started. live in chester, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. as people in cape may county continue to clean up from the damage from last night's storm, the national weather service will try to determine if it was a tornado that was responsible. we just got this up date, 15,000 people are without power. the southern part of the jersey shore took the brunt of the storm. heavy winds ripped part of this roof off. these are the boardwalk condominiums on east 10th avenue. a lot of cleanup here left to do. now let's look at the damage in cape may. fierce winds blew over nearly a dozen boats that were on land at the corinthian yacht club. this small plane was no match

for the strong winds. the plane got tossed around the tarmac and flipped over. no one was inside. and a lot of people send us video of the storm damage where you live by using the free nbc 10 app. it's a great resource to have, especially during the threat of severe weather. in other news now, we have new information in the bill cosby sex assault case. the pennsylvania supreme court is refusing to hear the comedian's appeal. that decision was made on monday. cosby's attorneys wanted the supreme court to dismiss the case. they said former montgomery county d.a. bruce castor promised his office would never prosecute the case. cosby's accused of drugging and moldcting a former temple university employee at his cheltenham township home in 2004. his defense contends it was a consensual relationship. just two days after u.s. senators voted down several gun control measures, a republican senator has a new proposal to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists.

maine senator susan collins is proposing letting federal prosecutors bar guns to two narrow groups, those on the no-fly list and those who can fly but only after intensive screening. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell hasn't said whether there's been a vote on her proposal. pat toomey says he will support the bill. he faced backlash for voting against monday's bills. the measures were designed to keep terrorists from getting guns and expand the background check system. and congressman bob brady is proposing a bill that would prevent a state legislature from overturning a local government's gun control laws. the bill would apply to cities with populations of more than 500,000 people like philadelphia. in 2008, a state court threw out philadelphia ordinances that including limiting gun purchases and banned assault weapons. watch where you swim if you plan a trip to the jersey shore

good morning, everyone. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington and we're watching 95 right now. this is right around girard avenue. no problems or delays in either direction. as you can see, a 13-minute drive time you're headed southbound, from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway, speeds into the 60s there as well. no big problems on 95. we are watching major construction. this is the new jersey turnpike extension headed eastbound. that's just getting off the turnpike between delaware river bridge tolls and the turnpike. the left and center lanes will

be closed there. the burlington bristol is scheduled for an opening in the next five minutes or so. about that time we'll start to see that bridge up and the ben franklin bridge and the tacony palmyra are nice and clear heading over westbound. more updates when i come back in the next ten. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> getting a nice start this morning. cooling down, right now 72 degrees here at nbc 10 at 4:40. sunshine will be nice and bright and the temperatures climb from the 70s into the 80s. still clouds around right now. not tracking any showers in the area. the wind, seven miles an hour at 8:00. look how it increases as we head into the afternoon hours. those northwesterly winds bring the humidity down this afternoon while the temperature will be warming up, 85 degrees at 2:00. scattered clouds, mostly sunshine for the suburbs. 66 degrees right now. there are some areas of fog. the fog will disappear.

happening today, the staff for the upcoming democratic national convention officially moves into the wells fargo center. they had had offices in center city. here's a live look at the center in philadelphia. the convention runs june 25th through the 28th. hillary clinton will be on capitol hill this morning. the presumptive democratic nominee will meet with house democratic leaders and then they were address the news media. nbc 10's vai sikahema is in our digital operations center with more on the candidates' schedule today. vai? >> good morning, tracy. after spending the morning in washington, secretary clinton will head to north carolina where she's scheduled to appear at a rally in raleigh. she blasted the gop's presumptive nominee donald trump. during a speech on economics, clinton trashed trump's tax policies and business record. she even took aim at trump for going into bankruptcy with four of his corporations. she warned supporters, if elected president, trump would devastate the auto industry, stock prices and family savings

town. donald trump will hold a fund-raiser in new york as he chases the cash he needs for the general election campaign. on the heels of firing corey lewandowski yesterday, he's named four senior aides, including a new digital director and veteran operative to head up his political team. i'm live in the digital operations center, vai sikahema, nbc 10 news. i'll join you in the studio at the top of the hour, tracy. >> thanks, see you then. two philadelphia men are behind bars after police stopped them and found more than 900 pounds of marijuana. both of these men were arrested on 95 monday night. they face several charges, including unlawful transportation of marijuana. this picture shows how massive the haul was. you can see box upon box, stacked full, wrapped up of marijuana. police pulled over the men on northbound exit ramp from i-95 to route 279 in cecil

county. officers suspected something. they called on a canine sniffing dog who alerted them to the drug. 4:48. we have new information on a dangerous kind of jellyfish that's started to invade barnegat bay. the jellyfish are multiplying. they found dozens of the creatures so far this week. a jellyfish stung a swimmer, putting him in the hospital for two days. while the invasive creatures have been in the bays, they have not been found off ocean beaches. let's check the conditions along the schuylkill expressway. jessica boyington has that. jessica? >> yes, tracy. there is an accident here around the vine street expressway, headed eastbound. some lane restrictions there. it's over into the shoulder. traffic still moving through the area as you can see. no big delays or backups.

with police activity on the scene, there is a slow down by there. but again, the schuylkill expressway headed eastbound just past the vine street expressway. if you typically take the vine street expressway, the construction is clear this morning. it cleared about an hour ahead of schedule. westbound and eastbound is both open between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. no problems there. the blue route looks great also with drive times of 15 minutes in both directions north or south from 95 to the schuylkill expressway. speeds are still into the 60s. we're in the process of that scheduled opening for the burlington bristol that was scheduled for 4:45. we'll have updates of course on when that goes back down and that accident on the schuylkill when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 11 minutes before 5:00. drying out at the shore. no rain here. stl still a few clouds overhead in wildwood, new jersey. all that moisture yesterday producing fog in coatesville. most of the rest of the area is

fog free, with a couple exceptions. very light fog in blue bell. so the south, just under two-mile visibility in millville and two-mile visibility in wilmington. that is light fog there. the temperatures in the 60s and 70s will warm into the upper 80s this afternoon. it's going to be a warm summer ç day. any fog around in wilmington this morning, doesn't look foggy in this view from frawley stadium. any of that fog with a little bit of a warmup will quickly disappear. we'll see that fog thin out. a bright, sunny, beautiful summer day today. warm? yes. the humidity will be coming down. upper 80s for university city in somerton. doylestown 85 degrees. look at the sunshine for the lehigh valley. new jersey, upper 80s, bright, sunny skies for glassboro and vineland. atlantic city 89 degrees this afternoon. usually you can count on the shore for cooler temperatures. with westerly and northwesterly winds coming in off of the land, that will keep the temperatures warm even on the beach. in delaware, wilmington will

warm to 87 degrees, just a few scattered clouds. 88 degrees in dover today. nice and clear. there it is, wilmington, no sign of any thick clouds overhead. just a few light clouds for the north this morning. those won't be an issue. sunny skies today. this is what i'm watching for tomorrow. look at those showers and thunderstorms. that is potentially our weathermaker for tomorrow. the futurecast shows those storms firing up over the next 24 hours. and early tomorrow morning they'll start moving into western pennsylvania, arriving in here first thing tomorrow morning. and with clouds, showers and a chance of some thunderstorms, the potential for heavy downpours into the afternoon. that will make for a cooler day tomorrow. but potentially stormy. not today, though. sunny skies, lower humidity. 88 degrees this afternoon. tomorrow, 82 with the showers and thunderstorms moving through and then they're done by friday and the weekend, we're on track for a beautiful summer weekend.

saturday 88 degrees. it will be hot on sunday, 90 degrees. and that hot weather continues into monday. but then here comes more wet weather. that will drop the temperatures some on tuesday, more so on wednesday. wednesday afternoon, 85 degrees. then into the 80s again on thursday and friday with a chance of more storms. tracy? now from our delaware bureau. people living in new castle finally have their own grocery store again. a brand new superg market opened yesterday along route 9 near the delaware memorial bridge. this fills a void for thousands of people after two supermarkets closed last november. even though it wasn't quite ready, they opened early because their customers needed a place to shop. >> the community has been begging for a store to be open. so we made the decision to go ahead and open the store, get an early preview and work things out as we go. >> many people in this area rely on public transportation. before the store opened yesterday, their closest grocery

good morning, everyone. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington watching an accident right now over on the schuylkill expressway. it's headed eastbound right around vine street expressway. so towards the center city area. you can see pretty much all lanes are getting by.

we are losing part of the shoulder and maybe a little bit of the right lane. all traffic still moving through. we'll have updates in case anything changes when i come back in the 5:00 hour. four minutes before 5:00 right now. uber says it will agree to let new jersey's attorney general decide how to do criminal background checks on its drivers. uber had threatened to leave the state if lawmakers required drivers to be fingerprinted. the company says fingerprint background checks are flawed and incomplete. a spokesperson for the attorney general's office said the bill is under review and will not say if the attorney general will require specifically fingerprints. new jersey governor chris christie is pushing for equal funding for every student across the state. christie announced a plan that would distribute aid equally to students in the state's 600 school districts. >> in newark right now they spend $750 million a year on
